“The only way we're going to get
from where we are
to where we want to be
is through staff development.
When you talk about school improvement,
you're talking about people improvement.
That's the only way to improve schools
unless you mean painting the buildings
and fixing the floors.”
Earnest Boyer

What is MCSD?
The Maryland Council of Staff Developers (MCSD) is committed to helping you to achieve your vision of Professional Development. MCSD views high-quality professional development programs as essential to creating schools in which all students and staff members are learners who continually improve their performance.

Professional Development is a shared responsibility for teachers, schools, and districts. Setting priorities is necessary to produce an effective response to competing needs. Looking at the needs of other levels helps everyone to have the broad perspective necessary for wise decisions. Connecting plans for professional development across levels makes them more effective and more likely to receive the support needed to be successful. As a member of The Maryland Council of Staff Developers, you have an opportunity to join a state-wide network of individuals, schools, and organizations committed to ensuring a successful educational experience for all students.
